Who is eligible to register as a prospective farm worker through BC Fruit Works?
You must be at least 16 years old, located in Canada, and legally allowed to work in Canada in 2024 OR a young adult (18-35) with a working holiday visa in Canada (IEC program).
Will my employer be BC Fruit Works or will I be working directly for a grower or fruit packing house?
While BC Fruit Works facilitates the initial connection, it’s important to note that you will be employed directly by the grower or fruit-packing house that posts the job.
Do I need to have previous experience working as a farm worker or related work?
No! Growers provide training and support for farm workers upon arrival.
Is it safe to work as a farm worker?
All employers participating in the BC Fruit Works program are insured by WorkSafe BC and follow AgSafe guidelines.
Do the growers provide living accommodations for farm workers?
Accommodations for workers differ based on the orchard or vineyard. Some growers/fruit packers provide on-site cabins or campsites, while others are situated near independent campgrounds. Additionally, some Workers may opt to stay at nearby lodges or with friends or family in the area.
What are the work hours?
Work hours and shifts vary depending on the orchard or vineyard. When applying for a position, workers can choose their shift from the options provided by the employer.
How much money can I earn?
The more you work, the greater your earning potential! Alongside standard wages, many growers provide additional incentives such as cash bonuses, performance-based rewards, or end-of-season bonuses.
Do farm workers have to work outdoors if the weather is bad?
Farm workers work outdoors in most weather conditions – heat, cold, wind, and rain. However, employers may cancel shifts occasionally due to inclement weather.
